Let’s talk about why you are Absolutely Not Helping The Situation At All when you reblog/otherwise call attention to Tumblr users who are threatening to kill themselves.
This time it requires we pretend that they are genuinely going to attempt suicide rather than just fishing for attention.
Someone probably just got their jimmies rustled but you cannot deny that people do things like that sometimes.
I am not making a general statement and not all people who make posts like that are fishing for attention.
I’m saying that some of them are, but that’s a rant for another day.Anyway.
Let’s say Jimmy is going to do something, so he makes a post about it, either to ask for help or to say goodbye.
His friends, instead of calling the police or talking to him privately to calm him down, react to this by reblogging it and asking anyone who sees the message to boost the signal and send him nice messages to make him feel better!At a base level this looks like a nice thing to do, but please stop and think about it for longer than thirty seconds.
- That is embarrassing for them. If Jimmy is truly not fishing for attention, he would probably not be thrilled than all of your corner of Tumblr is hearing about what he’s thinking about doing.
- Getting a shitload of messages/other attention is overwhelming. The last thing you want to do is overwhelm someone in a bad state. They are probably already panicking, you need to calm them down, not freak them out more.
- If Jimmy has anonymous messages on, you cannot guarantee how many of those messages are going to be nice and supportive. There are assholes out there and you absolutely cannot deny that when they caught wind that someone is in a compromising emotional state like that, they’d jump on it. That would do nothing to help Jimmy and god knows how much to hurt him.
If you think your friend is going to attempt suicide, you need to:
- Stay calm.
- Call the police and tell them what information you have on your friend. Name, address, phone number. I don’t think you even fully need their address, but I’m not sure.
- Talk to them privately if they are available.
- Ask them how you can help them, listen to them, don’t freak out, listen to them, try to keep them as calm as you possibly can.
- Don’t gang up on them.
- Do not guilt them about anything they are doing.
- Try to avoid advertising it.
- If you absolutely truly must call that kind of attention to them for any reason, for fuck’s sake, tag it as #tw: suicide or something so you don’t trigger anyone else into a breakdown, alright???
I think that’s it.
I think the most important thing is that you stay calm, too many people freak out over this shit and that impairs rational thought and that’s why things don’t go as well as they could.
due to an overwhelming like of my use of textures on my caps blog i decided to make a texture masterpost for anyone interested. this includes where i learned about textures and sites where there are an abundance of textures (ones i use most often).
tutorials
- google is always going to be your best friend when you need to know how to do something in photoshop. yeah, i know it’s kind of stupid recommending google but i don’t care.
- psdtuts - this site is probably the most popular and coincidentally the most useful. i would check out the video tutorials because those are how i learned how to do most of what i know.
- flickr tutorial - this tutorial is the same approach i go about editing caps. it’s very different but the steps are the same.
- psdlearning - another site like psdtuts but not as popular (at least i don’t think it is)
- i really wish i could add more sites here but (and i hate to be one of these people) i just experimented until i got something that looked halfway decent. the only advice i feel like i can give to people is download all the textures ever and work with them.
textures
- these are ones that i use most often, it is not limited to.
- first and foremost i suggest searching through deviantart, flickr and livejournal. there are amazing people out there with a lot of things to offer.
- fuckyeahresources - honestly go here and download everything (if you think “but i’d never use that texture!”, you probably will later on then again i hoard textures so maybe you shouldn’t take my advice.)

Windows 98, as a Tumblr theme (updated)
Live Preview | Download!A few days ago I released a conversion of Windows 98 into a Tumblr theme. A lot of people seemed to quite like it, but I got a lot of feedback saying people wanted more personalization, so that’s what I’ve added. The changes are as follows:
- New: you can now change the desktop background color
- New: you can now add custom pages that will show up as folder icons on the desktop
- New: My Computer (home), My Documents (ask), Network Neighbourhood (submit), Folders (pages), Recycle Bin (archive) icons are all toggleable if you don’t want them to display
- New: captions on photos, videos, audio posts are toggleable so you can hide them if you don’t want them
- New: the space where the “File”, “Edit”, etc. tabs in Windows 98 used to be now display the post timestamp and note count
- New: clock in bottom right actually works, uses whatever timezone your blog is set to use
- New: reorganised the way images are handled to reduce page load time plus loads of other stuff to make it a bit nicer to use!

All these colors were achieved with red, yellow, blue, and green food coloring mixed into white frosting. The amount of drops needed for the color you want is underneath the icing color. So convenient. :)

Let’s talk about Noitu Love 2.
Noitu Love 2: Devolution was created by Swede Joakim Sandberg, alias Konjak. You might have played his free Legend of Zelda tribute, the aptly-titled Legend of Princess. Noitu Love 2 was developed over the course of 8 months and released in 2008 on his site. Noitu Love 2 is a vast improvement over the original Noitu Love, going from a fairly unremarkable (and sometimes extremely frustrating) sidescroller to a mouse-based sidescrolling beat-em-up with a great deal of variety, featuring extremely memorable bosses and two secret characters that offer completely unique styles of play.
My roommate says he’s friends with Sandberg. He says he’s a nice guy. He sounds nice.
Sadly, the game failed to garner much attention, even after having its priced halved. Perhaps it’s because it never showed up on the XBOX Arcade Marketplace or some other game distributor. Perhaps it’s because people expect indie games to be free or have a budget of several thousand dollars. In any event, I’m bring this forward because, as Sandberg himself announced a few minutes ago,Noitu Love 2 is coming to Steam.
Let’s be blunt here: Noitu Love 2 has irrevocably placed itself on my personal throne of favorite indie game, outdoing entries such as LaMULANA and the ever-beloved Cave Story. It’s a game that I find myself picking up again and again despite having beaten it more thoroughly than just about any other game I’ve ever picked up.
In summary, get your money ready and buy it right now, and if you’re still not sure, you can play a fairly extensive demo right here. Or wait a few days to buy it on Steam. That’s what this post was about, right? I think it was.
